Are you 15 or 16, volunteering with your local fire service, and passionate about making a difference? This could be your chance to share your story with the world.
CBBC’s award-winning My Life documentary series is teaming up with Girls on Fire and Emmy-winning filmmaker Caroline Menzies (Netflix, BBC, National Geographic) to feature a teenage girl who’s a volunteer firefighter.
The film will follow your journey as you train, prepare, and take on the challenges of real-life emergency response. It’s about showcasing your courage, your motivations, and what drives you to serve your community.
What they’re looking for:
-
A girl aged 15 or 16 (ideally 15, turning 16 in the next 7 months)
-
Volunteering with a fire service that allows 16-year-olds to attend callouts
-
Confident and comfortable on camera
-
With parental/carer consent to take part
What’s involved:
Filming will happen on selected days during training or volunteering, with some time at home so the audience can see what inspires you. Galore Productions is flexible, so filming may start later this year.
How to apply:
Caroline would like a short video introduction (just use your phone – landscape mode is best). In your video, please include:
-
Your name and age
-
A little about yourself and your story – why you became a volunteer firefighter and your experiences so far
-
Why the role excites you and what you’re looking forward to (like upcoming training or your first callout)
Your video will only be seen by the production company and BBC commissioning team.
📩 If this sounds like you – or someone you know – head to the application form now.
This is a rare opportunity to shine a spotlight on the next generation of women in fire and emergency services. Could it be you?
