In 2025, Girls on Fire ran its first program inside Reiby Youth Justice Centre, working with girls and boys under 15 to build confidence, connection, and practical emergency skills. The program was made possible through funding from the NSW Government's Investing in Women initiative and the support of Reiby staff and our cultural inclusion mentors.

As we switch from the land of the long white cloud in Rotorua New Zealand to the bent elbow or resting place of country Victoria, we reflect on why we get up in the morning to do what we do. And why we want every girl out there to consider joining us for a day (or in Ballarat’s case, two!) to experience Girls on Fire.

Fire and disaster education not-for-profit Girls on Fire, Inc, is conducting their maiden voyages outside of New South Wales in March. After a highly successful debut in founder Bronnie Mackintosh’s hometown of Rotorua, The Girls on Fire program debuts in Victoria at Ballarat.

A program designed to engage LGBTQIA+ youth with fire and emergency services in a positive way through learning disaster management skills will see its Australian debut during Pride Month.
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land where we work and live. Girls on Fire pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We celebrate the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders of all communities who also work and live on this land.
