Our mission is to inspire and empower young women and disadvantaged youth (14–19) from regional and underrepresented communities, including disadvantaged schools (ICSEA <1000), with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to lead in disaster preparedness, prevention, and emergency response. All while exploring vocational opportunities.
We target regional and remote towns where leadership development opportunities and vocational pathways are often limited. By creating a network of volunteers and empowering young people, Girls on Fire build resilience and self-sufficiency in communities that face unique challenges.
Girls on Fire champions marginalised youth like LGBTQIA+, Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and neurodiverse young people making a meaningful impact in their communities through access, representation, and connection to culture. This includes areas with greater vulnerability to the worst disaster outcomes due to disadvantage and/or youthfulness of the local population.
Girls on Fire run free programs that emphasise hands-on training, mentorship, and education and equips participants with skills that are essential in times of crisis. We invite participation in keeping communities safe from those most vulnerable to disaster and economic vulnerability.
Girls on Fire’s mission is rooted in a commitment to alleviating social disadvantage and suffering through empowering young people to make a change through employment and disaster literacy. We provide educational opportunities to build confidence and resilience in underrepresented youth. We foster a diverse and capable workforce that goes on to reflect the community at large.
In 2024, the Girls on Fire Fire Up Roadshow took our unique fire and emergency programs to communities across NSW. Girls and young people in regional and remote areas experienced hands-on training in fire, flood, and disaster response, built confidence and leadership skills, and explored career pathways in emergency services.
From schools and youth centres to regional towns and local councils, we partnered with communities to ensure every participant could take part, completely free.

This is only a sample of the change we create for disadvantaged and marginalised young people.
We collaborate with fire and emergency services as our delivery partners, local social enterprises for catering and outreach, schools for education programs, and community organisations like PCYC for venues and engagement. Together, we create lasting change and ensure every girl has the chance to become a future leader in emergency services.
