Vocational Pathways
Program (VPP)
An 8-week vocational training program for young school leavers, delivered one day a week in partnership with NSW Rural Fire Service — offering an empowering alternative to traditional university, TAFE, or trade pathways.
Next program launching Feb/March 2026 — Illawarra Region
Working with the same group of young school leavers one day a week for eight weeks, participants complete a fully accredited, school-approved vocational training program that leads to nationally recognised NSW Rural Fire Service competencies.
This program offers young women (and gender-diverse youth) a powerful alternative to the usual post-school pathways — combining real-world skills, purpose, and community impact.
The Vocational Pathways Program includes:
- The RFS competencies in fire and emergency skills
- Disaster preparedness across urban fire, bushfire, flood, and climatic impact
- Application readiness for agency volunteering and employment
- Wellbeing support, with a focus on easing the “what next?” worries young people experience
- Experiencing First Nations cultural practices
- Action-oriented ways to answer youth climate anxiety
- Modelling life as a first responder
