Entering the classroom

Girls on Fire is set to transform the classroom in New South Wales this November.

Through an amazing program run by the Department of Education and The Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP) program, Girls on Fire will be presenting two interactive sessions for New South Wales school students to attend.

This interactive experience is for female students in Year 10 – 12 who are exploring their options. The focus is looking for a rewarding career pathway with the NSW Fire and Emergency Services. Girls on Fire founder Bronnie Mackintosh can’t wait to meet you all.

What you will learn at the sessions

Two part series includes:

  • Overview of the NSW Fire & Emergency Services

  • What are the various roles within emergency services?

  • How to prepare for and discover which path to take during & post high-school

  • Resilience as a core capability

  • Panel of firefighters from all the services sharing their journeys

  • Opportunity to interact with Emergency Services and ask questions

  • Learn more about community safety, volunteering opportunities and your role

The Fire and Emergency Services included in these sessions:

  • Fire and Rescue, NSW Aviation Rescue Firefighting

  • NSW Rural Fire Service NSW State Emergency Service

  • National Parks & Wildlife Service Forestry Corporation, NSW

1st Session (Part 1) – 40 min presentation plus Q&A

  • Overview of Emergencies & how they are managed

  • Who are our Emergency Services and what roles are available

  • Who are we as responsible community members

  • Understanding of the fundamentals of community safety

  • Introduction to resilience

2nd Session (Part 2) – 40 min presentation plus Q&A

  • Meet the firefighters in our Emergency Services

  • Understand what it’s like to be a firefighter & what the role involves

  • Learn the various pathways to employment & building blocks to success

  • Explain the need for inclusive, multi-skilled teams that connect with our communities

  • Community impact of emergencies & disasters

  • Building your resilience
