Are you our next non-executive director?

Girls on Fire is seeking a passionate and experienced Non-Executive Director to join our Board.  There are two positions available. Please note: these are volunteer positions. 

As a Non-Executive Director, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic guidance, oversight, and governance to ensure the long-term sustainability and success of the organisation. You will contribute your expertise and insights as part of our “working board” to help shape our strategic direction and delivery.

Who are we?

Girls on Fire Ltd., is a small but ambitious not-for-profit organisation, with plans to grow and develop the breadth and scope of its operations. Girls on Fire Ltd. delivers evidence-based cultural immersion and fire training programs.

Our programs are designed to inspire young people to take an active role in building community safety and connection. All while uncovering their own personal confidence and resilience – and the potential of an exciting new career path.

Currently, the organisation operates with a small team of CEO, Business Operations Manager, Wellness Coordinator and a team of dedicated volunteers.

We are committed to strategic growth and anticipate increasing our workforce in the coming years.

To be considered for this role, you will also need to demonstrate the following:

·       An understanding of governance and fiduciary duties associated with being a Director of a non-for profit organisation;

·       Ability to contribute strategic thinking to organisational priorities, risk management and business development;

·       Well-developed communication skills, including the ability to build networks and professional relationships;

·       Commitment to the values and strategic priorities of Girls on Fire; a passion for inclusion and creating opportunities for under-represented groups;

·       Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) course or equivalent, or willingness to complete (a preference but not compulsory);

·       Specialist skills in the following will be highly regarded:

o   Finance, audit and risk, including CPA or equivalent

o   Fundraising – corporate partnerships, philanthropy, grants.

 This is a volunteer position.

Time Commitment:

  • Attendance at approximately four to six Board meetings per year (typically held virtually), participation in one Committee, with four meetings per year;
  • Preparation time for Board meetings, including reviewing board papers.
  • Participation in one Board committee and/or working groups. Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get involved;
  • Occasional attendance at organisational events or stakeholder meetings.

Term:

Directors are appointed for an initial term of three years with the possibility of reappointment.
